Turbine has just released a new batch of screenshots for The Lord of the Rings Online: Siege of Mirkwood, the upcoming digital expansion to the award-winning MMO, which is scheduled to launch on December 1st in North America. The images depict the new Scuttledells region deep in the forests of Mirkwood.

From Dave Taylor at gamerzines.com: Rather than starting a new Volume and a new Epic story line with an expansion pack, Siege of Mirkwood will conclude the current Volume II and Volume III will be started via a free content update out early in the new year instead. Adam Mersky, PR Manager at Turbien told us: “Volume III will kick off with our first content update of 2010. With our expansion this year we’ve changed the model; you can still expect to receive regular (free) content updates, but they may not map directly to the launch of a new Epic Story. Turbine, maker of Dungeons & Dragons Online, has a busy legal department of late. In addition to suing Atari, it’s being sued – along with Sony and Blizzard – by a holding firm alleging infringement of their patented realtime technology. The company, Paltalk Holdings Inc., has successfully settled claims against Microsoft, alleging it infringed the same patents in Halo. The technology in question concerns how multiple players in different locations still see the same events – explosions, monsters, etc. – in real time. More..
