This evening saw the release of the latest TV Spot for The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug! Tonight we get a spot focused primarily on the Elven warrior Tauriel, though we also get a couple new shots of our main characters as well (keep an eye out especially for the shot right at the end!).
Having a character devoted TV Spot reminds me of the original ads for The Fellowship of the Ring (there were ones focused on Frodo, Gandalf, Aragorn & Arwen). I very much hope that we see this trend continue in the coming weeks. Continue reading “The Desolation of Smaug TV Spot #8 is here!”
German magazine CINEMA has devoted several pages of its December issue to the filming and post production of the second film in Peter Jackson’s Hobbit Trilogy – The Desolation of Smaug. They offered a wealth of interesting tidbits – not the least of which was a glimpse at what could potentially be the opening prologue of film two.

A short clip from The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug featuring Thranduil, Tauriel and Legolas screen this evening at the The MTV European Music Awards, introduced by Martin Freeman.
Our army of spies and crebain have alerted us to its existence, and a recording of it is already floating about around on the internet. After the worldwide Fan Event the other day, Evangeline Lilly stuck around to chat with Entertainment Weekly moderator Anthony Breznican and answer a few more questions from fans at The Grove in Los Angeles. Even if you watched the live event online, you won’t have caught this before.
Lilly had a few interesting things to say, and went into a little more depth about the background of her character Tauriel, and what motivates her. As the live feed of the ‘Desolation of Smaug’ Fan Event ended, those of us who were lucky enough to be in a theater were treated to five extended scenes from the upcoming movie that totalled approximately 20 minutes of never-before-seen footage. And what we saw was truly spellbinding!
The theater-exclusive material began with a full music video for the new closing credits song, ‘I See Fire’. It was quite a good song, but it doesn’t quite capture the magic of, say, ‘May It Be’ or ‘Into the West’, but few songs can. It’s a folk/pop ballad about Thorin’s determination to win back Erebor at any cost. As we shared with you the other day, our friends at The Noble Collection have some really great stuff coming that will be tied in with The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug. On top of the four Thranduil related items that we wrote about before, there are another ten more items, for a total of fourteen awesome looking collectibles.
