IMG_4565One of the pieces that stole Comic-Con 2014, and was a big hit again this year at Comic-Con 2015, is the amazing Smaug the Terrible by Weta Workshop. Sculpted by Lindsey Crummett and Gary Hunt this piece is a perfect representation of what we saw of Smaug during The Hobbit Trilogy. Smaug is easily one of Weta’s best pieces with some of the most fantastic details and paints we’ve seen. You can get Smaug for $749 with an edition size of 2000 pieces world-wide. He is worth every last penny. As you may have heard me say in my Comic-Con booth tour, if you only get one piece from The Hobbit then this is one you should.

HobbitBotFABardb2The last two days have seen two new items from our friends at Weta that are tied to this, the final film in the fantastic Hobbit Trilogy.

The first item landed yesterday and was something we saw at Comic-Con 2014 to do with a certain Dragon Slayer. That’s right, fans can now get one of Weta’s amazing statues capturing Bard the Bowman. This statue of Bard is so well done, with all the usual great details, as well as a dead on likeness to Luke Evans. Bard is currently up for pre-order for $299 with an expected ship date during quarter one of next year. There is also a small deposit that will be required at the time of order for those who will be one of only 1000 people to own this statue.

One of my favorite moments from the last film was The White Council taking on the Necromancer in Dol Guldur. Now if you’ve always wanted to own Saruman’s Staff, Weta has now released this amazing prop replica for you to add to your collection. Limited to just 1500 pieces worldwide you can snag this replica for $249 with a deposit at the time of purchase, and you should have this sometime during quarter one of next year.

BolgLast weekend at New York Comic-Con fans got a look at three new items among the many that Weta Workshop brought with them. Two of the new items are from The Hobbit Trilogy, while the third is from The Lord of the Rings.

Joining his father Azog we can now look forward to adding Bolg to our collections. This massive statue comes in at 15″ tall with a base width of 11.22″ and has an arrival date during the first quarter of next year.

One prop I have been looking forward to being made after seeing The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug, was the Black Arrow that we see Bard bring out of storage. This has become a reality with Weta having this on show at New York Comic-Con. Due out in the fourth quarter of this year this awesome looking prop comes in at an impressive 82.6″ long. Also due out during the fourth quarter of this year is Saruman the White’s staff. This joins the staffs of Gandalf the Grey and Radagast the Brown.

One of the more interesting things to pop out of the TORn mega-spoiler list relates to Bard, the Black Arrow and the weapon known as the Windlance.

Readers, of course, already know that Bard’s Black Arrow plays a critical role in Smaug’s attack on Lake-town.

“Arrow!” said the bowman. “Black arrow! I have saved you to the last. You have never failed me and always I have recovered you. I had you from my father and he from of old. If ever you came from the forges of the true king under the Mountain, go now and speed well!”
The Hobbit, Fire and Water

This is where, in Peter Jackson’s trio of films, events have begun to diverge. (It’s also, by the way, where we’re going to head into movie spoiler and speculation territory.) Continue reading “Analysis: Bard, the Black Arrow and the Windlance”
