As some of you may have noticed – something rather unexpected happened today.
While reviews for The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug were expected to
begin getting published this coming Sunday – the embargo was lifted early and we began getting reviews today! TORN staffers, who have been lucky enough to see the film already, will be reviewing the film soon enough. First up will be our own Quickbeam, who is currently finalizing his thoughts. Here’s a story for the bean counters. BoxOffice.com offers the following analysis of what they believe is The Desolation of Smaug’s likely box office potential, supported by social media metrics and some insider industry tracking. My take, it looks good. Well, I think it’s good — I certainly wish I could write something that earned $75 million in a day in one small corner of the world. And if it’s underhyped, well we all know that it’s better to undersell and over-deliver than the converse.
Earlier today, Peter Jackson, Richard Armitage and Evangeline Lilly participated in a Google+ Hangout – answering questions from fans and debuting a new clip from The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug (which

Earlier today a brand-new clip from The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug premiered during a Google+ hangout with Peter Jackson, Evangeline Lilly and Richard Armitage.
It featured a glimpse of a very memorable moment from the book, as Bilbo helps the dwarves escape from the Mirkwood Elves. From December 13, fans with a 3D printer who use the Windows 8 Ads-inApps, or who have an XBox 360 will be able to download a blueprint of The Key To Erebor. And that means they’ll be able to print their own, at home.
Pretty neat.
According to Microsoft’s Owen Sageness, the company partnered with Warner Bros. to make the whole thing happen — and was also pivotal in developing some of the nifty “deep dive” functionality you’ve undoubtedly already seen on the official website for The Hobbit movies.
