New Zealand website scene.co.nz reports that Peter Jackson’s Gulfstream private jet was spotted in Queenstown yesterday. The report states that post touchdown,  a 15-person entourage headed out for a hanger at local chopper company Heliworks.

An eye-witness also states that:

“There were about 13 to 15 of them and they had a huge amount of gear and they all took off in choppers.”

TORn regulars will recall our previous reports concerning “The Hobbit” scouting parties in Queenstown from as far back as November 2009. For those who missed those reports, they can still be accessed from the links provided below:

Our friend Michiel Stevens from DeHobbit.net has passed on a message that the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra, conducted by Ludwig Wicki, will be presenting a ‘live to projection’ performance of Howard Shore’s score for The Fellowship of the Ring at The Concertgebouw in Rotterdam, the Netherlands, this Saturday 4th June 2011, and Sunday 5th June 2011.

Stephen writes: Special effects wizard Sir Richard Taylor was awarded an honorary doctorate at a graduation ceremony Thursday 26th of May. The honour was conferred at the morning ceremony for Massey University graduates in the Michael Fowler Centre.

The doctorate recognises the contribution Sir Richard has made to the film industry and the Wellington creative community for more than 25 years. From Braindead to Black Sheep,King Kong and the global phenomenon of the Lord of the Rings film trilogy, and current filming of its prequel The Hobbit, Sir Richard and the company he co-founded Weta Workshop, have been at the forefront of Wellington’s emergence on the filmmaking scene.

He is a graduate of the School of Design at the former Wellington Polytechnic. The School is a forerunner institution to the College of Creative Arts at the University.
