Our friend Jack from The Noldor Blog has just posted a new blog entry concerning Hugo Weaving/Elrond who’s been spotted down in Wellington, New Zealand.
An excerpt follows:
About an hour ago I received news from one of my more reputable spies, and he has reported seeing Hugo Weaving here in Wellington this afternoon, shopping at Common Sense Organics, the fruit and vege market in Wakefield Street… it’s probably a bit too hasty to assume that he’s here to be in The Hobbit, but I can’t think of any other reason why he would come here right now, just when they’re discussing Rivendell scripts. It’s certainly not for the weather (it’s howling a cold southerly gale out there at the moment).
With Peter Jackson having mentioned in his Easter Break post over at his Facebook page that there’d be “Rivendell scenes coming up“, does it seem too far-fetched to assume that Hugo Weaving is down in NZ prepping for The Hobbit?

EXCLUSIVE – Deadline hinted first but TheOneRing.net can confirm that Elijah Wood will step in front of Peter Jackson’s cameras and return to Middle-earth for a part in ‘The Hobbit,’ — and we even know how. Despite how some fans will respond at first, the reasons are organic and natural and might not upset some of the most ardent purists.
Hugo Weaving, the man who delivered a fantastic voice performance in “V For Vendetta,” without ever showing his face, has been cast as Captain America’s nemesis and WWII Nazi the Red Skull in “Captain America: The First Avenger”.
Weaving, who TORn readers know as Elrond in the LOTR trilogy, may face another role behind a mask in this role as his character’s face is an…uh…red skull, although the press release from Marvel says, “The character will be updated for the feature adaptation.” Those hoping to see Weaving again as Elrond in a pair of yet-to-be-greenlit Hobbit movies, will do doubt be curious about the production schedule and potential conflicts with the two franchises.
Because of the financial situation of MGM, which is the distributor for the Hobbit films, nothing has been set in stone about shooting schedules. Producer Peter Jackson and director Guillermo del Toro have gone on record saying they would get the same actors for the same roles “whenever possible” and when appropriate. Elrond, although not a major role in the who films, who be an obvious and important character the two-part prequels to the LOTR film trilogy. The director hinted to the BBC that he expected Weaving to return.
