Peter Jackson has posted a note on his Facebook page announcing the recast of Fili and the much-anticipated announcement of the actor playing Thranduil! Lee Pace will be playing the Elven King Thranduil and Den O’Gorman will be playing Fili. While we create the bio pages for both, check out Peter Jackson’s note! Peter Jackson has just posted on his Facebook page a picture of an “old friend” who dropped by to visit him today.
TORn had earlier this week reported (by way of Jack from the Noldor Blog) that Hugo Weaving had been spotted in Wellington, New Zealand.
The pic PJ posted shows Hugo on the sets of The Hobbit.
While there hasn’t been any official confirmation of Hugo Weaving returning to portray the character of Elrond in The Hobbit yet, fans are keeping their hopes up for the same, so let’s hope his visit to the sets is an indication that things are indeed in motion.

John Farrell’s blog on Forbes has a delightful new video interview with Sir Christopher Lee, the first of a series planned over the next few weeks. His initial interview included a discussion on new media and Lee’s early entrance into hosting a website with help from his son-in-law.
What caught my eye was an initial statement by Farrell on his blog. He mentioned that Lee was “getting ready to reprise his role as Saruman in Peter Jackson’s two-part production of The Hobbit”.
While there is nothing on the video discussing The Hobbit nor is the statement itself a confirmation, the fact that Farrell recently spoke with Lee and chose this particular phrasing of words (without hedging) suggests this was part of their conversation and that Lee directly stated this. It could be a case of an over-zealous Tolkien fan reading too much into that statement but TORN followers may want to scour any future videos for tidbits of information.
Is this a backwards confirmation that Sir Christopher Lee will return as Saruman? Talk about it on our message boards here!
Orlando Bloom is confident he will appear in The Hobbit.
The 34-year-old actor hopes to reprise his role as archer elf Legolas in the highly anticipated two-part film adaptation of J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Hobbit. The movies, which will be directed by Lord of the Rings trilogy creator Peter Jackson, have created a flurry of excitement surrounding cast members. Bloom says he would love to return to the fantasy franchise and continue his work alongside the talented director.
“I’m going to bet on it,” he said in an interview with MTV. “But I can’t really talk too much about it at the moment because it’s still sort of in the ether. But I would love to go back to work with Peter Jackson. It would be an honour.”
Our friend Jack from The Noldor Blog has just posted a new blog entry concerning Hugo Weaving/Elrond who’s been spotted down in Wellington, New Zealand.
An excerpt follows:
About an hour ago I received news from one of my more reputable spies, and he has reported seeing Hugo Weaving here in Wellington this afternoon, shopping at Common Sense Organics, the fruit and vege market in Wakefield Street… it’s probably a bit too hasty to assume that he’s here to be in The Hobbit, but I can’t think of any other reason why he would come here right now, just when they’re discussing Rivendell scripts. It’s certainly not for the weather (it’s howling a cold southerly gale out there at the moment).
With Peter Jackson having mentioned in his Easter Break post over at his Facebook page that there’d be “Rivendell scenes coming up“, does it seem too far-fetched to assume that Hugo Weaving is down in NZ prepping for The Hobbit?

In a Facebook comment just posted moments ago, Director Peter Jackson confirms Ian Holm’s involvement in The Hobbit films and clarifies the voice at the end of last week’s video:
One comment that came up from the recent video blog was the Bilbo voice at the end—many of you assumed it was Sir Ian Holm. Whilst Ian will be returning as the older Bilbo Baggins in The Hobbit, that recording was actually Martin Freeman’s voice, taken from a script read through we recorded when the cast first arrived. I have to admit, I wasn’t sure who it was when I first heard it, either. Cheers, Peter J
