Radagast the Brown communes with a bird If those first three seconds of the ninth production video for The Hobbit don’t grab your attention, nothing will.

It’s illustrative of Jackson’s ability to convey a great deal in just a few short moments. Continue reading “Production video #9: what bird is that?”

Talented actor Sylvester McCoy is, of course, playing the wizard Radaghast in Peter Jackson’s Hobbit movies. Apparently, there is no lack of Sylvester McCoys out in the ethernet, so he recently declared himself the ‘real McCoy.’ This grin-inspiring comic is a play on that. Enjoy! Read more…

USA Today has just debuted six new photos from The Hobbit. There’s a great one of The Unexpected Party, another of Thorin Oakenshield looking very “questy”, and one beautiful image of Gollum, but the real eye-opener is Sylevester McCoy’s Radagast the Brown. There’s just something about his eyes that’s extraordinary. You know what I mean when you go have a look! Thanks to Ringer Owain for the heads-up! Oh, and SPOILERS!

From the very brief accompanying article: “I’m not a huge fan of fantasy for fantasy’s sake,” Jackson says. “I like Tolkien’s work because of the language, the cultures he wrote about… they’re anchored in a very real historical mythology that he created.”

Rubbermonkey, an online audiovisual superstore and film production company based in Wellington, is currently auctioning a film clapperboard signed by the Hobbit crew to raise money for four local charities — the SPCA, SAFE, NICU, and Ronald McDonald House.

The IKAN clapperboard wasn’t used on the Hobbit, but has been signed by members of the Hobbit cast, including Martin Freeman and Ian McKellan.

The auction is running now on Trade Me, and closes on Monday September 10 at 3:51pm. (Some of you might also be interested in the twin charity auction of a filmclapper signed by the All Blacks.)

As the first of three movies based on J.R.R. Tolkien’s “The Hobbit” inches closer, more and more marketing material will make its way to the interwebs. For example, the just discovered image of Radagast the Brown. Set for December 14, only months remain until  “The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey,” (we think that is the title at least) finally comes to long-waiting fans. A calendar featuring the characters from the film has shipped to the public and on it is the previously glimpsed Radagast the Brown (played by Sylvester McCoy) from a fuzzy image taken from Peter Jackson’s December production diary. (The good Doctor will be in person at DragonCon in just over a week to talk Dr. Who and Middle-earth with fans. In fact, here is the complete schedule for the Tolkien Track.)

The image is a little bit of a spoiler but it seems a likely candidate to appear in the next trailer, due around September. ThorinOakenshield.net has a calendar in hand and posted the image first after placing an order. This will be in the hands of other consumers shortly or is already. Radagast is visible after just after the break so once you click, you are spoiled. There will be no missing him. Continue reading “Radagast the Brown revealed in ‘Hobbit’ calendar *spoiler*”
