For a week or so, we have been treated to an unprecedented look at the Dwarves from Peter Jackson’s The Hobbit. Today, TheOneRing.net is both honored and humbled to be given the worldwide exclusive reveal of Thorin Oakenshield! (and Orcrist, the Goblin-cleaver!)

As a young Dwarf prince, Thorin witnessed the destruction and terror wrought when a great fire-breathing Dragon attacked the Dwarf Kingdom of Erebor. After slaughtering many of Thorin’s kin, the great serpent, Smaug, entered The Lonely Mountain and took possession of its vast store of gold and jewels. No-one came to the aid of the surviving Dwarves, and thus, a once proud and noble race was forced into exile. Through long years of hardship, Thorin grew to be a strong and fearless fighter and revered leader. In his heart a fierce desire grew; a desire to reclaim his homeland and destroy the beast that had brought such misery upon his people. So when fate offers him an unusual ally, he seizes the chance for revenge.

We’d like to wholeheartedly thank the production for giving the Tolkien fan community this final reveal! And now, we have seen the full representation of Thorin and Company! Read TheOneRing.net Staff Talk Dwarvesfor our thoughts and analysis on Thorin & Co., plus view a high resolution picture of each dwarf.

(The following opinion piece is third in the “Hot Dwarves” series, following yesterday’s Now this is what I’m talking about)

Hey ‘Hobbit’ PR machine!

9 out of 10 women agree: Bifur, Bofur & Bombur are hot.

Dwarf women!

But so do we! They definitely look hot in those outfits – hey, fur and leather and hair and all that gear is definitely hot. Sweaty hot! And oooooh, did I mention that hair? Steamy!

** grin **

In a strategic move of photo-releasage, Peter Jackson gave us three more dwarves today and has successfully quelled the squees of outrage over the glowering sexiness that is Kili. Bravo, sir!

The character rolloout continues as IGN has the latest exclusive image from The Hobbit featuring (r-l) Stephen Hunter as Bombur, James Nesbitt as Bofur and William Kircher as Bifur.
We also have the cast so far (below) before these additions thanks to the talented contributor Paul who will probably add the newest trio as well. The Dwarves are part of the Peter Jackson directed pair of films based on J.R.R. Tolkien’s “The Hobbit,” called “The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey,” and “The Hobbit: There and Back Again,” scheduled for theaters in December 2012 and December 2013. TheOneRing.net will be talking about the films at the San Diego Comic-Con next week.
