Burbank, CA and Berkeley, CA, April 1, 2013 – Continuing its strategy of delivering exceptional creative content to audiences around the world, The Walt Disney Company (NYSE: DIS) has agreed to acquire Middle-earth Enterprises in a stock and cash transaction. Middle-earth Enterprises, formerly known as Tolkien Enterprises, is a division of The Saul Zaentz Company, headquartered in Berkeley, California.
Under the terms of the agreement, the transaction value is $10 billion (US). The final consideration will be subject to customary post-closing balance sheet adjustments.

Kiwi satire website The Civilian pokes some fun at Peter Jackson, envisioning a scenario where the three Hobbit screenwriters plan to novelise the three Hobbit films.
AWARD-WINNING New Zealand director Peter Jackson has said he’s considering a novel adaptation of his popular film trilogy The Hobbit.
The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, the first film in the series, was released late last year to widespread popularity, grossing more than $1,000,000,000 worldwide at the box office. Hobbit parodies must be the new black. Here’s a new one, this time of I Love It, a tune by Australian Hip Hop outfit Hilltop Hoods. Director Alex Gabbott tells us he and his crew spent two months making the video, with a solid three weeks spent on on digital effects.
