Marilynn writes: Tickets are now on sale for the Riverview Theater’s 6th Annual LORD OF THE RINGS Trilogy Event on Sunday, December 18th. This year they will screen the Extended Version/Directors Cut of both the FELLOWSHIP OF THE RING and THE TWO TOWERS and the Theatrical Version of THE RETURN OF THE KING will be shown. Tickets are $10 in advance or $15 at the door. Most years, the event sells out so don’t delay in getting your tickets.

The Riverview Theater is a lovely vintage theater that looks much the same as it did in the 1950s with comfortable seats, state-of-the-art projection and sound systems, and popcorn topped with real butter. The Lord of the Rings In Concert: The Fellowship of the Ring is the groundbreaking first installment of Peter Jackson’s Oscar-winning film trilogy.  Featuring, Howard Shore’s complete Academy Award® and Grammy®–winning score performed live on-stage by more than 250 musicians with the film projected on an immense 60-foot screen.  Entertainment Weekly calls it “High Class Geekery” and The San Francisco Examiner exclaims “It’s The Concert of the Decade.”

The Lord of the Rings in Concert will be hitting San Diego, California on October 13. In addition to the orchestra performance of the soundtrack live to the screening of the film, they will also have 22 original movie props and costumes on display. Since they will also have the San Diego Civic Youth Orchestra performing before the big concert, this is definitely going to be a Family Friendly event. The group SF in SF presents a special charity fund-raiser screening tomorrow night (Aug. 25th) of the award-winning feature documentary RINGERS: LORD OF THE FANS. The evening will feature a discussion featuring the film’s director, editor and also legendary fantasy author Peter S. Beagle. Doors and cash bar open at 6:00PM, the event begins at 7:00PM. The screening and discussion will be held in the Variety Preview Room Theater in San Francisco.

Peter S. Beagle is no stranger to The Lord of the Rings. He penned both the screenplay for the Ralph Bakshi animated adaptation and the introduction to the infamous 1970’s Ballantine re-issue of J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Lord of the Rings. Mr. Beagle is one of the many outstanding authors featured in RINGERS. A resident of Oakland, Beagle recently accepted the 2011 World Fantasy Award for Lifetime Achievement.
