All the details are still being hammered out, but TheOneRing.net is working furiously to plan a trip for fellow fans to travel with us to New Zealand and attend the red carpet event in Wellington for the world premiere of “The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey,” on November 28.
Since the date was announced, TORn has been in contact with groups in New Zealand trying to arrange the best possible trip with finances, time away and itinerary as considerations. Highlights of the trip include:
* A visit to Hobbiton Movie Set near Matamata
* Lining the ‘Red Carpet’ for a world-class Wellington premiere party
* A visit to the Weta Cave
* A TORn & Red Carpet Tours costume party
* Other Wellington movie-related experiences, time permitting
Speaking of Red Carpet Tours, fans also have the option of joining a longer Hobbit tour with the trusted tour group long associated with TORn. You can read the itinerary here for the 14-day extravaganza.
TORn expects to finalize details and require a deposit in the neighborhood of $300 for the late-November event. Funds will be used to secure hotel rooms and make other binding travel arrangements. It is expected that the final price will include round-trip air from Los Angeles to New Zealand. Details will be announced as soon as possible but expect to leave just after U.S. Thanksgiving and return about a week later.
UPDATE: Yes, there will be land-only prices available.
Stay tuned for details but make arrangements now for this one-in-a-lifetime event!
Wellington will roll out its really, really long red carpet and throw a world-class party for “The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey,” on November 28. The date of the event has been guessed about for months but today it was confirmed in New Zealand.
The Embassy Theatre has long been the expected spot of the premiere and today’s story confirms it, giving the beautiful site another world-class event to go along with its 2003 hosting of “The Return of the King.” (You can check out TORn’s scrapbook of that event right here.)
Middle-earth royalty, many from the film, would be likely to attend and walk down Wellington’s Courtenay Place which serves as a weekend hot-spot in Wellington that typically stays open until the sun rises.
“I know I speak for a company of hobbits, dwarves, elves and orcs when I say that this city holds a special place in all our hearts,” director Peter Jackson said of the event at www.stuff.co.nz.
“We cannot think of a more perfect way to send ‘The Hobbit’ off into the world than to celebrate with a huge party here in Wellington, where the journey began.”
TheOneRing.net, long friends with Red Carpet Tours, is supporting their longer tour of Middle-earth, one we definitely recommend, but also hope to put together a shorter trip focused on the premiere. You can read Red Carpet’s full itinerary and sign up while details for a micro-trip will be announced ASAP. In addition, both groups will host a joint party in Wellington at a hotel in central Wellington
The two films based on J.R.R. Tolkien’s “The Hobbit,” is currently filming and is expected to finish principal photography later this month with pickups for the first film scheduled for later. TheOneRing.net spent a five-week stint embedded on set for the films with content coming later, as agreed before the embed began. We also fully expect to cover the premiere, and everything else ‘Hobbit’ related, as possible.
In the wake of THE HOBBIT 10-minute presentation at CinemaCon last week, fans’ excitement/ nerves/ energy level has grown apace! On top of that, a remarkable team of Hollywood talent has created a parody film of the LOTR Trilogy, to satisfy one of the longest-running “friendly rivalries” in the history of anime (a somewhat related field of fandom). Ringers just recently got their first look at the mini-epic “The Todd of the Rings,” available exclusively on YouTube. We are quite thrilled to be joined *live* by voiceover star VIC MIGNOGNA (“Fullmetal Alchemist” & “Naruto”) to discuss the creation of his special parody on today’s webcast TORn TUESDAY, hosted by Clifford Broadway (Quickbeam). The role of Gandalf was coincidentally played by your humble host, and many award-winning costumes were donated by Tolkien fans from across the country for the making of this comedic tour-de-force! Come join our live chat show and be part of the fun, Vic is eager to answer fans’ questions. As always, you can participate starting at 5:00pm PDT — There’s a built-in Barliman’s chat room or come in via Skype in TheOneRing.net’s Stickam page. Check out our LIVE Event section right here every week! [LIVE Event Area] (See All Times)
Anime fans are already in-the-know, but now Ringer fans have gotten their first look at a funny, impressively detailed parody of The Lord of the Rings Trilogy! Animation voiceover star Vic Mignogna, familiar from shows like FULLMETAL ALCHEMIST, DRAGON BALL Z, BLEACH and NARUTO, has been playfully embroiled in a video tribute challenge with fellow voice actor and friend Todd Haberkorn. The resulting comedy videos between them have become progressively more detailed and complex (and hysterical). This newly forged “Rings” parody looks amazing; and features a familiar personality from TheOneRing.net. Our very own Clifford Broadway (Quickbeam), host of the weekly webcast TORn TUESDAY, plays Gandalf the Grey! This playful mini-epic was presented at Anime Central just a few days ago in Chicago, and showcases some epic talent both in front of and behind the camera! Ringer friend Nicole Roberts (recent WETA contest winner) helped secure a bevy of prize-winning costumes for this parody ‘Fellowship.’ What was the genesis of this remarkable 23-minute parody? Mignogna states: “What started out as a simple tribute video rivalry among friends, has ultimately culminated in this epic production.” Filled with anime in-jokes and high end production value, this “Todd of the Rings” is the send-up to rule them all. View it exclusively on YouTube here.
