A while back, we announced that TheOneRing.net would be hosting the ‘Unexpected Art Show’ in Los Angeles. After speaking with all of the parties involved (and even more whom wanted to be involved but couldn’t because of the aggressive timeframe), we’ve decided to move this gathering of creatives to Oscar Party weekend! The ‘Unexpected Art Show’ will now invade Hollywood on Feb 22nd 2013 – allowing the folks attending ‘The One Expected Party’ a chance to partake in this one-of-a-kind show. Further details on the art show will be available shortly. And since we are on the topic of Oscar Party…We are just about to announce many more details! Stay tuned for all the exciting details including a headline act for the ages! (For those you who filled out our survey from last year, we haven’t forgotten you! You will receive an exclusive offer to purchase tickets first!)

The Higgins Armory in Worcester Massachusetts is hosting a Middle-Earth Day on Saturday, September 29th from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. In addition to stories and games, activities include making a Gondorian shield (or designing one of your own), watching Arwen teach Aragorn the proper way to slay an orc and seeing if you can out run a dwarf! The program is free with museum admission.  The Higgins Armory boasts the largest collection of medieval/ancient armor and weaponry in the Western Hemisphere, so be sure to leave time to see the museum. The cave is usually rather busy and packed with tourists, movie fans, Tolkien fans and other enthusiastic visitors, but today was exception even in busy times’ standards. Like many others, I too arrived at the cave today, my own wee elfling in tow, willing to brave the long queue especially to meet illustrator Alan Lee and to have him sign our copy of The Hobbit 2013 Official Calendar.

It was such a delight to find out that John Howe, the other major illustrator on the Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit movies was there as well! Continue reading “Report: Alan Lee and John Howe at the Weta Cave”

With as many as seven separate panels and activities competing with each other in some time slots, there was something for all interests and some tough decisions about which ones to attend.
