It’s that time of year again, when about half a million people converge on downtown Atlanta for the geekfest that is DragonCon. And TheOneRing.net will of course be there! We can’t wait to see all our friends and to enjoy Middle-earth fun together.
Some of the things which will be happening:
TheOneRing will have a ‘fan table’, as ever, where staffers deej and greendragon will be hard at work! We’ll be in our usual location in the Hyatt hotel, opposite the entrance to the Art Show. Come by and check out the new buttons and two new tshirt designs we’ll be unveiling this year!
We’ll be giving two panels:
TheOneRing.net / 15th Anniversary of The Fellowship of the Ring film
Description: 15 years ago the internet & fansites were just finding their way, but TheOneRing.net was there with hot anticipation of Peter Jackson’s (who?) The Fellowship of the Ring. Travel back to when nobody knew what to hope for or expect.
Time: Fri 01:00 pm Location: L401-L403 – Marriott (Length: 1 Hour)
TheOneRing.net’s Lost Treasures
Description: Lost Tales of TheOneRing, including amazing interviews with famous folks that never made it to prime time. The vaults are unlocked!
Time: Sun 01:00 pm Location: Grand Salon West – Hilton (Length: 1 Hour)
On Friday night there will be the Tolkien Track’s Evening at Bree, which starts at 8.30pm, in the Hilton’s Grand Salon West. Our good friends Emerald Rose will be playing – and the sad news this year is that this will be their last ‘Evening at Bree’. Emerald Rose are disbanding after DragonCon – so Bree will be one of their very last gigs together. They’ve been wonderful friends to TORn for many years, playing at our Oscar parties as well as annually at Bree, and their music has very much been a soundtrack to TORn. Come along and help us celebrate Emerald Rose and their music, and give them a rousing send off!
Bree will also, of course, include the Costume Contest – perhaps with a special guest MC! (You never know who might show up to Bree…!) Our panel of judges this year will be costumer Janette Jolman, well known for her superb Thorin cosplay (which Richard Armitage himself has admired!); film maker Douglas Dunklin, whose fan film The Peril to the Shire will be familiar to many of you; and Nikki Rau-Baker, aka The Geek Behind the Lens! We’re particularly excited to let you know that our Best in Show winner this year will win an hour long photography session with Nikki! So get those costumes ready! Don’t forget, to enter the Costume Contest, you need to SIGN UP IN ADVANCE, before 5pm on Friday. You can sign up either at TORn’s fan table in the Hyatt, or at the Tolkien Track room, L401-403 Marriott. Don’t forget to do that – you don’t want to miss out on entering the contest!
Then on Saturday night there will be the Middle-earth Dance Party! TORn’s own deej will be living up to her name and dj-ing. This year’s theme is Thorin Stardust and the Spiders from Mirkwood – music to include glam rock, Brit pop and more. We look forward to seeing Bowie elves and T-Rex dwarves on Saturday night, Marriott A601-602, from 10pm.
Lots to pack into a weekend – and that’s only the tip of the iceberg! The Tolkien Track, led by TORn’s own MrCere, will have a full three days of panels and programming, in L401-403 (Marriott) and elsewhere. Middle-earth guests at DragonCon this year include actors Ryan Gage, Dean O’Gorman and Craig Parker, and they’ll be taking part in Tolkien Track interviews which will certainly be events not to be missed! And finally, we know many Tolkien fans will be marching in the Parade on Saturday morning.
Phew – I’m exhausted already! See you in Atlanta – let the games begin!
