We’re getting closer to the “One Dragon, One Party”! As part of this special event, we’ll be holding a live auction and raffle with unique items we hope all attendees will enjoy. We’re excited to highlight a generous auction donation from talented artist Sean Robinson.
For our party, Sean has donated one 20 ounce green mug and one 24 ounce brown mug featuring a Prancing Pony medallion. Both mugs are dishwasher, oven and microwave safe. They are thrown with a mid-fire stoneware clay and the medallion is washed with iron oxide to bring out the details.
The idea for making Prancing Pony mugs came from Sean’s father, Bill. Both father and son are great appreciators of Tolkien’s work. You can learn more about their journey and Sean’s wonderful ceramics in a previous TORn post from last December. Currently, Sean resides in Jamestown, NC and is an elementary and middle school visual arts instructor in High Point, NC.
Sean began his journey towards pottery in 2005 by taking a basic pottery class at a community art school in Winston Salem, NC. He really got into pottery when he took a class called “A Week on the Wheel” one week before he deployed to Iraq with the Army. Upon his return he renewed his interest in pottery while pursuing an art education degree at Winston Salem State University. During his last year attending WSSU, Sean was fortunate enough to live and study artwork in Florence, Italy. His focus was on ceramics, sculpture, Italian Renaissance art history and Italian language. Sean has a very supportive wife, Ada, who was kind enough to donate her studio/storage space for Sean to set up his own pottery studio behind their home.
Sean’s Middle-earth inspired pottery can be found at his store with more designs coming in the future. These are just a few of the items that will be available at our “One Dragon, One Party” event. We hope you can join us!
