Demosthenes – Is that Girion, Lord of Dale?
Elessar – Thorin shooting some kind of weapon from Dale? At Smaug? Curious to see how they place this within the movie.
Entmaiden – OK, that’s way cool. Is that Bard shooting the Black Arrow?
Garfiemao – Now this is interesting, still trying to wrap my head around what this is. Clearly the machine is a spear throwing device, and you can see there is another one just over Thorin’s head. Actually, I’m not even sure that is Thorin. In fact, there are bodies arrayed around the weapon, so this is either from Battle of Five Armies, or more likely, further flashbacks of the day Smaug arrived. Hmmm, interesting they would have a weapon designed for defending against an aerial attack. So is this in Dale, or along the ramparts of Erebor?
Gramma – Whoa! That is a serious weapon!
greendragon – Flashback sequence possibly, to when Smaug first swooped down on Dale?
Kelvarhin – Is this a flashback to the attack on Dale? And Girion defending his city?
MrCere – Is that a great big arrow? I don’t think the destruction in the following shot is related to the launch of that thing.
Mithril – Is that Bard firing an arrow with that insane device? I sure hope he does not use this to kill Smaug. That would be sacrilege.
Rud the Spud – Massive double-bowed bolt thrower. It appears to be the original attack on Dale from the prologue of the first movie. The weather matches. Is this perhaps the Girion scene PJ mentioned possibly going into AUJ EE?
Saystine – Dale’s defenses? It could be Lake-town, but the stonework seems more Dale to me.
ImladrisRose – So pretty.
Kelvarhin – Yeah I’m definitely feeling flashback here.
ImladrisRose – Bad dragon!
Mithril – Lake-town exploding. (But it almost looks like Dale.) Smaug has struck? I want to see Smaug flying.
Sarumann – So, another Dale flashback is on the way. Maybe we’ll see some full Smaug action this time.
ImladrisRose – I can’t tell if that’s his bow or he is hanging on something?
Elessar – Legolas using Spiderweb to slide down and kill a spider. Makes sense to me. I mean he did literally climb a Mumakil.
Kelvarhin – Legolas battling spiders. The imp in me keeps hearing “he flies through the air with the greatest of ease, that daring young man on the flying trapeze”.
Mithril – Legolas and Tauriel fighting Spiders.
MrCere – Is there a chance that isn’t Legolas?
Sarumann – Oh, Legolas. Must you always showboat in your action sequences?
ImladrisRose – Still can’t tell.
Gramma – Legolas and Spiders!? More Goosebumps!!!
Kelvarhin – Not a method of travel I’d use *shudders*
ImladrisRose – That’s not good.
Garfeimao – What is Thorin doing inside Erebor when there is Dragonfire? That does not look like the clothes from the past, so what is he doing there when Smaug is so clearly still in residence? NO NO NO, this does not exist, make it go away.
Kelvarhin – Smaug does not approve of your #majesty 😀
Mithril – Thorin flying out the front entrance of Erebor?? Being expelled by Smaug’s fire.
MrCere – Mr. Oakenshield I presume?
Rud the Spud – Thorin running from dragon fire. Did they enter while Smaug was still there?
ImladrisRose – Nobody tosses a dwarf!
Elessar – Smaug shooting fire at Thorin in Erebor. Gonna have to see this to see if I like it or not.
greendragon – What is happening here?? Why is Thorin enraging Smaug right at the front door??
Sarumann – Thorin doing his best John McClane impression. I am 100% okay with this!
ImladrisRose – Thorin is not being very nice to Bilbo.
Garfeimao – And the treasure is already pulling on Thorin, he’s suspicious of Bilbo, and Bilbo is confused and it’s just not fair, but we know it had to come.
greendragon – And how come he has a different belt buckle in this scene? Is the previous scene a look back or a look forward??
Kelvarhin – The beginning of Thorin’s descent into the gold madness. I rather like the way it’s being shown.
Mithril – Has the Arkenstone already happened? Why else would Thorin be so mad at Bilbo. Is he making him leave?
MrCere – I believe this dialog and the images aren’t a match. I think the trailer uses it to add conflict. Pretty clearly Bilbo is leaving the treasure room and Thorin has some dragon sickness showing up, but I wonder if the dialog isn’t imported from a conversation elsewhere. So much for that bro hug at the end of the first film. Effective music comes to a close here, so Thorin can utter his almost threatening dialog with nothing to distract from it.
Rud the Spud – The beginnings of Thorin’s mistrust for Bilbo. Does Bilbo have the Arkenstone hidden away already?
ImladrisRose – Poor Bilbo. I do love how they are handling Thorin.
Demosthenes – What on Middle-earth has made Thorin so aggrieved? Was Bilbo thinking of warning Lake-town of Smaug’s approach? Note the pile of gold in the background. This is in the treasure room.
Elessar – Here comes total jerk Thorin from the book. You knew it was coming.
Gramma – Uh oh. Thorin looks like he’s challenging Bilbo. After the beating our Hobbit has taken already, I really would think twice before doing that!
Saystine – Even grumpy Thorin is awesome, but it does sadden me to see the friendship begin to strain between Thorin and Bilbo.
