Disqus commenters and messageboarders are evenly split

The TORn messageboarders and people responding directly on the homepage post via Disqus are much more evenly split. In fact, there’s a slight balance to likes beating out the dislikes. More people are willing to give it a go. Again, here’s a small sample of reader responses, both for and against:

R11. This is PERFECT. Perfectly ridiculous. With each and every new bit of info that comes out of this project it becomes more and more apparent. The whole thing is a send up! It’s supposed to be a satirical joke! Ha, Ha! The jokes on us! Just when I thought it couldn’t possibly get any more absurd and farcical, they have managed to up the ante! And there’s still another year and a half to go too!

duats. The ONE thing I was looking forward to the most with these films, and this is what they come up with. I think I’m going to be sick. Awful. Just straight-up awful.

Oin’s parasite. I’m loving this design! They truly made him look outlandish! And it’s great! That mane is wonderful!

Arandir. I like! Very “outlandish” and bear-like … just wish we’d get a clearly image of his face.

isaac. It reminds me to Mouth of Sauron’s design, very unexpected and original, unique, lets say. If they would hav done that with the great goblin that would have been great. I like risks, and I like this Beorn, well done IMO.

jf300. But I quite like the design! It isn’t how I imagined Beorn to look but it’s still a nice design. We haven’t seen anything in Middle-earth like it yet. There does seem to be a lot of negativity, purely because the design is not how people had imagined Beorn to be. I’m willing to let the film team to have their artistic license and the freedom to create without being tied to other people’s ideas of what they should be doing.

Elessar. Not sure he looks exactly like I thought but still looks cool. I had always imagined some huge looking mountain man.

Lusitano. The first thought that came to my head was that of a punkish, jean wearing, tattooed guy i once saw at a concert….uncanny resemblance… I am waiting for a better picture…but if this indicates how hes going to look like…then in my mind, it is horribly unfaithful to Tolkien.

Finally, here’s a breakdown of key words that the people in the Facebook thread were using to describe Beorn, and their relative frequency of use.
