Here comes the sun…
Demothenes: Didn’t Gandalf do this on a bridge somewhere?
maegwen: Yes, this could be a misplaced shot from “The Lord of the Rings,” but nearly certain it is Gandalf’s famous moment: “Dawn take you all, and be stone to you,” as the light comes over the hill and turns the Trolls to stone.
Ahhhhhh!
“I am so sorry to keep you waiting .. ”
Coolest bathrobe, ever
Random note: The fabric for this robe was discussed in one of the film’s production diaries.
Demosthenes: Bilbo opens the door and many dwarves fall through the door. It looks like they arrive all at once, not in duos and trios.
maegwen: As I suspected, the dwarves do arrive en-masse…
Thar be dwarves
maegwen: … and fall, en-masse.
MrCere: Do not be too hasty with your assumptions Team TORn! I think the dwarves here have been listening to a conversation between Bilbo and Gandalf. They don’t fall because they are knocking at the door and it opens, they fall because they have been carefully listening, ear to wood.
maegwen: I have to follow up, MrCere. Bilbo is wearing a bathrobe in this scene but in none of the others. It suggests he was at home relaxing when suddenly guests arrive. Also, in the shots of Bilbo and Gandalf conversing, he’s not wearing the bathrobe.
Mr. Baggins was feeling positively flummoxed…
Before the plates begin to fly.
Demosthenes: More shenanigans with Bilbo’s crockery.
And they’re off!
Quickbeam: In the Rankin/Bass animated “Hobbit” (1977) Bilbo says: “Dwarves have a strange notion of perfection.” This scene really showcases their natural mechanical precision with rolling and flipping plates effortlessly!
“You’ll have a tale or two to tell … “
The trailer circles back to where it began
Earl: This shot is reminiscent of the Hobbits escaping the Black Riders at the Bucklebury Ferry
Quickbeam: Bilbo has been rushed out the door by Gandalf, “without a hat, walking-stick, or any money,” as Tolkien writes in Chapter 2.
maegwen: He’s quite spry, isn’t he? As I recall, he didn’t have time to grab a handkerchief, much less a satchel. Where did the bag come from? …Must remind self not to be so literal.
“When you get back.”
Bilbo races off to catch up with the dwarves
