The Leaving
by David McG
The shutters are closed, the doors have been locked.
The welcoming light is no more to be seen.
Golden now fall the leaves from the trees which so long have been vibrant and green.
The last homely home has allowed Time to enter,
to gracefully bring forth the end.
For the Elves they are leaving this Middle Earth and it’s fates are for Men now to tend.
The lights bright are dimmed in Lothlorien’s shelter.
It’s stairways untrodden and bare.
For none now remain of the folk who there dwelt
with the Lady of Light so fair.
Westward they travel with honour and pride.
The Children of Varda to meet.
By the Grey Haven shoreline where graceful white craft
take them on to their long known defeat.
All things must pass
All things must fade
All that was is now changed
For the Elves they are leaving this Middle Earth and it’s for Men now to own as arranged.
Farewell to the Firstborn, the Quendi, Nimir
The teacher, the artist, the friend.
The Sea finally calls under Elbereth’s stars.
To lead them to their journey’s end.
Navaer, mellon nín!
