Artist Donato Giancola has recently begun work on a new, and very large, Tolkien-inspired painting. It depicts the moment in J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Silmarillion when Beren declares his love for Thingol and Melian’s dauighter and vows to undertake the quest of the Silmarils.

I have begun a massive canvas work this past month, depicting Beren proclaiming his love for Luthien in the Court of the elf king Thingol and the Maia Melian in the Caves of Menegroth.
Tapping into the artists Edwin Austin Abbey and Jacques Louis David for inspiration and understanding on this one.
